1. Exercise 3 times a week.
One of the most powerful ways to clear your mind of negative thoughts
and watch your self esteem skyrocket high in the sky is to get physically
active.
Are you finding it hard to get motivated to go for walk, run or get to the gym?
Does it seem like too big of a task to take on based on the situation you are in?
A 10-15 minute walk a few times a week is a great start. Then you can
work your way up to 3-4 times a week gradually.
You can start tracking your weekly exercising right now.
2. Eat Healthy.
What types of foods are you eating on a regular basis?
How often are you eating each day?
Are you drinking enough water?
It is really really important that you are eating properly. You need to
be eating the right amount of vegetables, fruits, grain, milk and meats.
It is a good idea to become familiar with your country’s food guide and
build a healthy diet around this. You can always book time with your
family doctor to review what you should be eating to stay healthy.
3. Stop watching the bad news.
Have you ever noticed how much negative information is sent to us in the
daily news?
There always tend to be a happy story in the last five minutes of the evening
news to make us forget about all the negativity.
If your goal is to surround yourself with positive energy and clear your mind of negativity, turn off the news. If you like to read, watch TV or listen to the radio choose something with a positive focus such as reading an inspiring biography or listening to relaxation music.
4. Start and end your day with positive affirmations.
On a daily basis, you probably have a number of things you do consistently
such as brushing your teeth, having a shower, eating breakfast, exercising etc.
If you want to feel good about who you are as a person, make it a daily habit
to tell yourself positive things.
You can fill your mind with positive messages, which will grow, in your
subconscious and soon your mind will be very quick at saying bye bye to any
negative thoughts.
Here are some examples of affirmations:
“I have a purpose to positively impact the world.”
“I am a strong and confident person.”
“I can overcome any challenge that life brings me.”
“I am full of love, peace and harmony.”
“I can accomplish anything.”
“I am surrounded by positive people in my life.”
Repeat the word “Love” 100 times. (Courtesy of Wayne Dyer)
5. Spin the positive side of everything that happens to you.
If you want to feel good about yourself, you need to have the same point of
view about everything that is happening around you.
Here are some things to think about:
a. You have a day where you believe everything you did was wrong.
How would this impact the thoughts going through your head?
b. If your mom, teacher, boss or partner told you that you are the most loving
and caring person in the whole entire world.
How many times would you think about this conversation?
The point of this exercise is to gauge where you are at with the current level
of your self esteem. A bad day doesn’t have to change your mood.
You could decide to laugh it off and think about what have you learned
from the experience.
The next time someone is rude to you. Take a deep breath and think about what
is the positive side of the situation.
6. Surround yourself with positive people.
Let’s keep the positive theme going. The example above mentioned someone
coming up to you and saying they don’t like you. One thing you might learn
from this is you may not be completely surrounded by people who genuinely
care and support you.
You have the ability to find people who look at the world in a positive, loving,
compassionate and caring way. It may take some time to find the people
you want to have in your life.
The first step is to open your mind to the idea of bringing positive people to
you. Then you need to be ready when they enter your life. Some of them
may already be in your life and you haven’t connected with them in awhile.
A great exercise I learned from reading one of Jack Canfield’s books is to
make a list of all the people in your life.
Once you complete the list, start at the top and put a positive sign beside the
people you know for sure make a positive impact on your life.
Then place a negative sign beside those people who are not bringing love and
compassionate to your life. They may complain all the time and blame others
for the situation they are in.
Now make a new list with only the people with positive signs beside their name.
You now have a start to surrounding yourself with the right people to increase
your self esteem.
7. Journaling
Journaling can be a highly effective way to release negative thoughts from your mind.
We have learned a lot about getting positive thoughts, energy, people etc. in your life.
So what happens when negative thoughts come into your life?
How do you handle them?
If you enjoy writing, journaling can make a positive impact on your self esteem in a
relatively short period of time. Keep in mind that you don’t have a to share what
you write with anyone if you don’t want to. That is what shredders are for.
8. Relax, mediate and do nothing.
With life being so busy, you may not get a change to sit & relax for even ten minutes.
Commit to sitting in a comfortable place for 5 minutes a day and do some relaxing
breathing. You could do some mediation exercises if that is helpful for you.
The goal is to spend at least 5 minutes a day doing nothing.
You might find you get hooked and start spending more time each day relaxing.
9. Learn how others have increased their self esteem.
Whether you like to read, watch movies or listen to music. There are whole variety
of ways you can learn from other people who have went through or are going
through a similar situation as yourself.
Here are some great people to learn from:
Wayne Dyer
Jack Canfield
David D. Burns
Joe Vitale
Steve Nash
Rick Hansen
You can always to go Amazon.com to search for others.
10. Use your passion to make your life more fulfilling.
We all have a gift we can share with others. Do some soul searching if needed
to determine what your true passion in life is.
Here are some questions to help you define your passion.
a. If you had a choice, what would you do everyday for the rest of your life?
b. How would this make a positive impact on your family & friends,
your community, your country, the world?
c. How much of your time are spending doing this right now?
d. What do you need to change in order to spend more time doing what you love?
If you are having difficulty with these questions, it is completely normal.
It can take some time to see what it is you are destined to do and/or make the
changes in your life to spend more time doing it.
